Next BCPS registration date for 2015-16 is Feb. 27
The next spring registration date for new students at Ballard County Preschool/Head Start will be Friday, Feb. 27, for children who are or will be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2015.
All registrations are by appointment only, and will be held at the preschool at 455 Olive St. here.
 
Myers wins BCES spelling bee, qualifies for state
Isabella Myers (far right) won her second school-wide spelling bee at Ballard County Elementary School on Jan 29. She now is qualified to compete in the state spelling bee, to be held later in Louisville. 
Meinschein wins retired teachers' essay contest
Ballard County Elementary School fifth-grader Zeke Meinschein is shown here with a certificate from AARP for his winning entry in the “AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year” essay contest. The contest is co-sponsored by the Kentucky Retired Teachers’ Association. 
January Students of the Month announced
Ballard County Elementary School has announced its Students of the Month for January. Students are selected by their teachers as good examples of the positive attitude, behavior and effort that is expected of everyone at BCES.  
BCES students join peers around the world for Hour of Code lessons
Students at Ballard County Elementary School were among those in over 20,000 classrooms around the world who worked on an “Hour of Code” during Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 8-14. The event was meant to give students a taste of computer programming – the language that makes all websites, social media, internet browsers and other applications possible.  
Rhea wins bicycle for perfect attendance
Ballard County Elementary School fourth-grader Josh Rhea is shown here with his new bicycle. One student’s name is drawn at the end of each quarter from all students with perfect attendance; the gifts are provided by the Ballard County Board of Education.  
Students rewarded for good behavior
Ballard County Elementary School students recently were rewarded for their good behavior. The number of students in grades kindergarten through fifth with no minor behavioral violations for the second nine weeks was 371 – nearly 70 percent of the student body!
