Try-outs continued on May 4 for Ballard County Middle School volleyball teams
Try-outs for the 2016-17 Ballard County Middle School volleyball teams will be continued on Wednesday, May 4, from 3:15-5 p.m. in the Ballard Memorial High School gym.
All girls currently in grades 5-7 with an interest in playing volleyball for next year are invited to attend.
FPS team takes fourth place at regional Governor's Cup
The Future Problem Solvers team at Ballard County Elementary School won fourth place at regional Governor’s Cup competition on March 12. 
McGlenon wins retired teachers' essay contest
Ballard County Elementary School fifth-grader Jace McGlenon is shown here with a certificate from AARP for his winning entry in the “AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year” essay contest.  
BCES students take second in district Governor's Cup
Ballard County Elementary School placed second overall in the District Governor’s Cup competition held March 6 at Heath Elementary School. The Future Problem Solving Team also won second place and the Quick Recall team was third.

Students at Ballard County Elementary School celebrated “Read Across America” last week in honor of author Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) and his contribution to children’s literature. 
Fickes wins bike for perfect attendance

Tyler wins Signet Federal Credit Union coloring contest
Kaylin Tyler, a second-grader at Ballard County Elementary School, will have this contest-winning picture hunt in one of Signet Federal Credit Union’s locations. 
District-wide on-site counseling services up and running
An on-site counseling service operated through Mountain Comprehensive Care Center of Morehead, Ky., is now in operation at Ballard County Schools.
The services are offered at no charge to the district, and will take any student insurance coverage for the care. If a student is not currently insured, MCCC also will help the family secure appropriate insurance coverage.
BCES 4-H Club wants the Mallard Duck to be Kentucky's official waterfowl
The Ballard County Elementary School Fourth Grade 4-H Clubs are sending a resolution asking the 2016 Kentucky General Assembly to name the Mallard Duck the official State Waterfowl of Kentucky. State Rep. Steven Rudy has told group members that he will present the resolution on their behalf.
