Ballard girls invited to participate in youth league volleyball
All Ballard girls in grades 3-8 are invited to participate in youth league volleyball, beginning this month at the Paducah Regional Sportsplex. Registration is set for Feb. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Plex at 6525 U.S. Highway 60 W, near McCracken County High School. Cost is $65 per child, and includes all clinics, practices, games, awards and a t-shirt. 
District-wide on-site counseling services up and running
An on-site counseling service operated through Mountain Comprehensive Care Center of Morehead, Ky., is now in operation at Ballard County Schools.
The services are offered at no charge to the district, and will take any student insurance coverage for the care. If a student is not currently insured, MCCC also will help the family secure appropriate insurance coverage.
 
First BCPS registration for 2016-17 to be held Feb. 19
Ballard County Preschool/Head Start will hold its first spring registration for new students on Friday, Feb. 19, for children who are or will be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2016.
All registrations are by appointment only, and will be held at the preschool at 455 Olive St. here. Upcoming dates are Feb. 19 and March 4 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Parents/Guardians are asked to please call 270-665-8400, ext. 2100, to schedule an appointment.
 
BCES 4-H Club wants the Mallard Duck to be Kentucky's official waterfowl
The Ballard County Elementary School Fourth Grade 4-H Clubs are sending a resolution asking the 2016 Kentucky General Assembly to name the Mallard Duck the official State Waterfowl of Kentucky. State Rep. Steven Rudy has told group members that he will present the resolution on their behalf. 
Weaver wins bike for perfect attendance

December Students of the Month announced
Ballard County Elementary School has announced its Students of the Month for December. Students are selected by their teachers as good examples of the positive attitude, behavior and effort that is expected of everyone at BCES.  
GT students make storyboards
Gifted and talented students at Ballard County Elementary School recently read Katherine Paterson’s Newbery Medal-winning book, “Bridge to Terabithia” as part of their enrichment classes led by volunteer Nicole Rehkemper. Weston Stewart is shown here with the storyboard he created about the book. 
GT students take field trip to state Department of Transportation office
Gifted and talented students at Ballard County Elementary School traveled to the Kentucky Department of Transportation District 1 office in Reidland to learn about what the office does, and about careers in civil engineering.  
'Sleepover' held as K-PREP reward
Ballard County Elementary School held a sleepover on Nov. 20 to reward all students who scored proficient or distinguished on at least one section of last year’s K-PREP tests, or who met their personal growth goals. Eighty-six students attended.
