Higgins chosen as BCES guidance counselor
Fifth-grade math teacher Ginger Higgins was named guidance counselor last week by the Site-Based Decision-Making council at Ballard County Elementary School. As of July 1, she will replace Vicki Fowler, who is retiring after 31 years of service. 
March Students of the Month announced
Ballard County Elementary School has announced its Students of the Month for March. Students are selected by their teachers as good examples of the positive attitude, behavior and effort that is expected of everyone at BCES.  
BCES art students paint for governor’s Derby celebration
Several fourth- and fifth-grade students in Jennifer Shrum’s art classes at Ballard County Elementary School have been working on a contribution to the governor’s Kentucky Derby celebration by painting this canvas, and hoping it will be used as a table covering at the Old State Capitol in Frankfort.  
Fourth-graders visit KDA’s Mobile Science Activity Center
Ballard County Elementary School fourth-graders got to spend three days of science classes inside the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Mobile Science Activity Center last week. Instructor Jason Hodge led the students through a variety of hands-on experiments and activities with BCES science teacher Crystal Herron. 
Miller receives award for essay on PE
Ballard County Elementary School fifth-grader Jake Miller (center) recently wrote an essay discussing the problems with not having a physical education program in his grade.  
BCES holds Book Fair Family Night

Second-grade family night celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday
Members of 42 families attended second-grade family night on March 2 at Ballard County Elementary School, celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. In the first photo are Rylee Lehmann and her dad, Daniel. 
Community members help celebrate Read Across America Day at BCES
Several members of the community visited Ballard County Elementary School on March 2 to read to students in every kindergarten through second-grade classroom. The day celebrates the birthday of children’s author Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
