BMHS announces Summer Academy elective courses
The following courses are offered for first-time credit through the Ballard Memorial High School Summer Academy. Students who have taken the class previously are not eligible to enroll.  
Parker chosen as BCMS principal
The Ballard County Middle School site-based decision-making council has named Amber Parker as its successful candidate for principal. Parker was named interim principal in last July.  
Students of the Week announced for April 20
Each week at Ballard County Middle School, three students (one from each grade) will be selected and named Students of the Week. Students are nominated by teachers for outstanding behavior or performance. Shown from left are BCMS Students of the Week for April 20: sixth-grader Morgan Blankenship, seventh-grader Kolton Pearson and eighth-grader Madeline Kimbro. Selectors said Blankenship sets high learning goals for herself, makes excellent grades, and uses her leadership skills to help others; Pearson has bumped up his classroom performance, is giving 100 percent, and is maintaining a strong, focused finish to the year; and Kimbro always turns in her work on time, is willing to help other students in need, and is positive and tries her best.  
Seventh-graders participate in first-ever Reading Fair
Seventh-graders at Ballard County Middle School have been working on presentations about their favorite books for the media center’s first-ever Reading Fair, held March 26.  
BCMS students hear Kentucky Chautauqua speaker
Students at Ballard County Middle School got a chance to hear from Harland “Colonel” Sanders, as portrayed by Nicholasville resident L. Henry Dowell. The presentation was sponsored by Kentucky Chautauqua, through the Kentucky Humanities Council, along with Murray State University’s Office of Regional Outreach and Paducah Bank.  
Ballard students visit Frankfort, meet new senator, witness bill signing
Twenty-six students from this year’s sixth-grade Junior Leadership class at Ballard County Middle School were joined by 4H teens and members of the Ballard Memorial High School Student Ambassadors on a trip to Frankfort on March 25.  
BCMS students design towers
Students in Sue Morris’ seventh-grade science class at Ballard County Middle School have been studying structure, stability, center of gravity, and air currents. Last week, they were challenged to build the tallest possible free-standing tower, using only newspaper and 15 centimeters (about 6 inches) of clear tape.

Students in Sue Morris’ seventh-grade science class at Ballard County Middle School have been studying the laws of motion, gravity and friction.
