Make appointments now for free physicals on June 4 and 5
The Area Health Education Center in Murray will be providing free physicals for anyone in the community who needs one on June 4 and 5. These may be regular physicals or sports physicals, for children or adults, and can include cholesterol and blood glucose screenings.  
State to allow flexibility; last day of school for students now May 30
There was good news out of Frankfort on Friday (March 28); both houses of the General Assembly passed the snow day legislation that allowed districts flexibility in fulfilling the requirement for 1,062 instructional hours. That means that Ballard County students can finish this school year on May 30, if classes are held on May 20 and May 26 (Memorial Day), and if the district makes up missing instructional time to meet the 1,062-hour requirement. Reminder issued for sixth-grade, other immunizations; school nurses can help
All students entering sixth grade at Ballard County Middle School in the fall are required to have a physical and several immunizations (TDaP, meningitis and second varicella-chickenpox). The school nurse can provide both the physical and these shots if a student has Medicaid or no insurance.  
BCMS concert band receives distinguished rating
The Ballard County Middle School concert band received a distinguished rating, the competition’s highest, at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Concert Band Assessment at Murray State University on March 18.

Each week at Ballard County Middle School, three students (one from each grade) will be selected and named Students of the Week.

Ballard football players attend quarterback camp
Several Ballard Memorial High School football players attended the Elliott Quarterback Academy camp in Evansville, Ind., on Jan. 26.

BCMS Academic Team places first at District Governor's Cup
Ballard County Middle School took first place overall in District Governor’s Cup competition on Jan. 18. The Quick recall team placed second in extra rounds against Carlisle County. Eight students also earned individual placements.
