Time changing on first doors open at all schools
Doors at all district schools - Ballard County Elementary, Ballard County Middle and Ballard Memorial High schools - will not open until 7:15 a.m. this year. This includes the BCMS and BMHS gyms, and all other doors.

Ballard County Schools has named Terri Wehmeyer its successful candidate for district director of special education and Ballard County Preschool coordinator, effective July 1.

She had been director of special education and preschool at Crittenden County for the last year, and dean of students at the Grand Chain Learning Center/JAMP for the year before that. Wehmeyer also taught at Lone Oak High School for six years, and spent four years as a special education teacher at Paducah Middle School. She has been employed in the educational setting since 1999.  

Adult Education now offering GED classes at Barlow City Library, and Tuesday evening at Adult Ed office
Ballard County Adult Education now is offering GED classes at the Barlow City Library on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. The library is located in the City Hall Annex (old City Hall), behind the City Hall building at 139 N. Fourth St., Barlow.

Ballard County Middle School has named Ashley Bodell as its interim school counselor for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year. Bodell had been serving as a special education teacher at BCMS. Long-time counselor Kim Grogan retired at the end of October.

Ballard County Middle School students who earned Distinguished scores in every administered area of the May 2016 K-PREP assessments were recognized at the Ballard Board of Education’s Oct. 17 regular meeting.

The following students recently participated in the 45th annual First District Honor Choir held at Paducah Tilghman High School.

Each month at Ballard County Middle School, six students (two from each grade) will be selected and named Leaders of the Month. Students are nominated by teachers for outstanding behavior or performance. Shown from left are BCMS Leaders of the Month for September: sixth-graders Evan Rehkemper and Molly Harris, seventh-graders Dustin Howle and Gabrielle Rodriguez, and eighth-graders Grace Horn and Hunter Buchanan.

Kentucky Farm Bureau agent Justin Puckett is shown here with the first local sponsorship to the Leader in Me program at Ballard County Middle School. The money will be used to purchase Leadership notebooks for all students so they can learn to track their own academic and behavior data for the school year.  
Breakfast, lunch at all schools again free under CEP program
For the third year, students at all Ballard County schools will be eligible to eat breakfast and lunch for free. Morning and midday meals for all Ballard County Schools students again will be free in 2016-17, under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision, according to Ballard Food Service Director Amber Hayes.
