Ballard girls invited to participate in youth league volleyball
All Ballard girls in grades 3-8 are invited to participate in youth league volleyball, beginning this month at the Paducah Regional Sportsplex. Registration is set for Feb. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Plex at 6525 U.S. Highway 60 W, near McCracken County High School. Cost is $65 per child, and includes all clinics, practices, games, awards and a t-shirt. 
District-wide on-site counseling services up and running
An on-site counseling service operated through Mountain Comprehensive Care Center of Morehead, Ky., is now in operation at Ballard County Schools.
The services are offered at no charge to the district, and will take any student insurance coverage for the care. If a student is not currently insured, MCCC also will help the family secure appropriate insurance coverage.
 
BCMS academic team takes first place at district Governor's Cup
The Ballard County Middle School academic team took first place overall in the District Governor’s Cup tournament, held at Fulton City Middle School, starting on Jan. 19. Because of bad weather, individual assessments and quick recall competition did not conclude until Jan. 26.
The quick recall team finished first, and the future problem solving team took fourth place. Several students also placed in the top five individually. The QRT and individuals will compete at regionals on Feb. 13 at McCracken County High School.

BCMS students hear from 'Mark Twain'
Students at Ballard County Middle School were treated to a visit from legendary American author and humorist Mark Twain (Glyn Webb) on Jan. 8. “Twain” was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

Author Courtney Stevens speaks at Ballard County Middle School
Ballard County native and published author Courtney Stevens visited Ballard County Middle and Memorial High schools on Dec. 7. She conducted student writing workshops in the morning and spoke at this school-wide assembly at BCMS in the afternoon.
