Stop 'n' Go extends daycare hours at BCPS; new students welcome

Stop ‘n’ Go Daycare, located at Ballard County Preschool – Head Start, now is offering extended hours. New hours at the facility at 455 Olive St. are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“The change is being made in part so parents who work or go to school themselves after the regular preschool day will have access to the same high-quality program for their children,” said BCPS Director DiAnna Corrigan. Daycare slots in the extended hours (5:30-7 p.m.) are open to new and existing students, she said. Daycare students must be ages 2-5, and must be potty-trained to be eligible. Snacks will be served to children at about 6 p.m.

One other program that can benefit immediately is Ballard Adult Education. Director Chris Hildebrand says there are no students currently in his program on Tuesday nights who will take advantage of the extended daycare hours, but maybe that extension will make it possible for someone to pursue a GED who did not have the chance before.

“We always are looking for new students, and if this helps a mom or dad who couldn’t get away to attend GED classes before, that is great!” he said. Both Hildebrand and Corrigan said that they would be happy to help parents check for available subsidies for childcare for working parents, or those attending night classes here or elsewhere.

New or existing daycare students are asked to contact Stop ‘n’ Go and let them know students will be staying during extended hours. Please call Rhonda Childress at 270-665-8400, ext. 2107, or email Rhonda.childress@ballard.kyschools.us.
