Wehmeyer named new director of special education, preschool coordinator
Ballard County Schools has named Terri Wehmeyer its successful candidate for district director of special education and Ballard County Preschool coordinator, effective July 1.

She had been director of special education and preschool at Crittenden County for the last year, and dean of students at the Grand Chain Learning Center/JAMP for the year before that. Wehmeyer also taught at Lone Oak High School for six years, and spent four years as a special education teacher at Paducah Middle School. She has been employed in the educational setting since 1999.

“Every day is a learning moment,” Wehmeyer said. “I have come to realize that there is no behavior book with all the answers to the complex issues facing today’s children; there is not a cookie cutter approach to preventing behaviors. I understand the dedication and hard work that comes along with trying to manage the behavior triggers of children with exceptional needs, and I have a passion for helping those students.”

Wehmeyer holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Midcontinent University; a master’s degree in special education and her Rank I in advanced learning behavioral disorders from Murray State University; and her director of special education endorsement from University of the Cumberlands.

“We are excited to add Terri Wehmeyer to our administrative team in the roles of director of special education and preschool coordinator,” said Ballard Superintendent Casey Allen. “Terri brings experience in both areas from her previous leadership roles in other districts. Her expertise will benefit our district immediately, ensuring that our children’s needs are met by bringing a fresh set of eyes to evaluate our processes and procedures.”

Wehmeyer resides in Paducah, and has two sons. Cody B. Martin and his wife, Katie, live in Wyoming and serve in the United States Air Force. Wyatt Martin lives in Paducah and attends WKCTC. Wehmeyer is a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church in Paducah.
