LaCenter First Baptist Church purchases building from Ballard County Schools

The public was invited to witness a signing ceremony on Oct. 29 at the former LaCenter Elementary/Ballard County Preschool building, as LaCenter First Baptist Church finalized the purchase of the building at 455 Olive St. from Ballard County Schools.

Shown from left are Kreg Denton, senior vice president, First Community Bank; Melanie Carter, Denton Law Firm; Casey Allen, superintendent of Ballard County Schools; Karen Tilford, chair of Ballard County Board of Education; and Lisa Emmons, attorney with Denton Firm.

The church’s pastor, the Rev. Brian Steward, said the former school will become a multi-purpose building, housing an early learning center for children from 0-5 years old with a Christian-based curriculum, a Christian counseling center, and a recreation ministry. The church’s youth program also will use a portion of the building, including the cafeteria area.

The Rev. Steward said the focus of the counseling center would be for family, child and addiction/recovery counseling. The recreation ministry, in the old gym, would feature church-league volleyball, men’s basketball leagues, and open gym time. Family Focus, the Family Resource and Youth Service Center for Ballard County Schools, also will hold events there, including the Santa’s Workshop programs for their annual Christmas assistance program.
