Bomber Back-to-School Bash set for Saturday, Aug. 10
The 12th annual “Bomber Back-to-School Bash” will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All students in the district will register for class, receive orientation information at all of Ballard’s schools. (A complete schedule of class orientations accompanies this story.) A district-wide safety update will be held at 11 a.m., and all parents are invited.

In addition to students and parents, the public is invited to a health and community resource fair in the Ballard Memorial High School gym at 3561 Paducah Road, Barlow, from 8 to 11 a.m. Family Focus (elementary school) and Teen Focus (middle and high schools) will have school supplies in the gym’s concession area for those who qualify.

Bomber Bash will not count as a workshop for the Christmas Assistance Program this year. However, Family Focus and Teen Focus each will have 100 Kohl’s $50 gift cards available for later distribution. To be eligible for the gift cards, parents must turn in all paperwork in their child’s registration folders before leaving Bomber Bash, and must meet all income guidelines. After staff verification, the first 100 in each location will receive the cards by the end of the first week of school.

Orientation times for kindergarten through high-school seniors are scheduled on that day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Parents may drop in any time from 8:30-10 a.m. this year at Ballard County Elementary School and Ballard County Preschool - Head Start, both located 3383 Paducah Road, Barlow, regardless of their child’s grade level. All BCES and BCPS teachers will be in their classrooms that day. Students are encouraged to bring supplies to their classrooms.

BMHS orientation is from 9-9:45 a.m. in the cafeteria; BCMS orientation is in the MS gym from 10-11 a.m. The safety update will be held in the MS gym from 11-11:30 a.m., and building and district administrators will be present, as well as community responders.

The community-wide health fair at will be on the BMHS gym floor from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day, featuring more than 20 area participants. The public is welcome. Volunteers from local and regional health care providers will offer free blood pressure and other screenings.

As always, the top of the high school gym will host a community fair with local service, business and college/university representatives during the same hours.
