Members of the Ballard Memorial chapter of Health Occupations Students of America were rewarded with second prize in the state of Kentucky for their hard work on the organization’s organ donation sign-up drive. Charlotte Wong of the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates in Lexington came to Ballard County on Feb. 14 to present a $300 check, which will be used by the group to attend HOSA’s state leadership convention in March.
During the month of November 2016, Ballard HOSA members set a goal of 75 new organ donation sign-ups. They surpassed this goal, signing up 81 new donors.
“This will help so many families in the state of Kentucky,” said Ballard HOSA advisor April Jewell. “We would like to send out a huge thank-you to all who helped us reach our goal, but more than that, for offering the gift of life to so many in need.”
Forty-six districts around the state participated in the contest, with neighboring McCracken County winning first place.
