End-of-year activities set at all Ballard County schools
Ballard County schools have set dates for end-of-year activities. Because of lingering COVID concerns, some events will be different from previous years, but they will be in-person. Event dates are as follows:
 
Ballard County Preschool-Head Start:
BCPS will host its celebration for AM and PM 4-year-olds on May 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the preschool. There will be games, a bounce house, face painting, cotton candy, snow cones, hot dogs, chips and drinks. Parents are asked to please not send money. Students should wear old clothes, since they will be outside.
Only AM buses will run; anyone who needs transportation is asked to call the number below. Only students will be allowed to attend the festivities; no parents may attend.

Ballard County Elementary School:
A cook-out for fourth- and fifth-grade students exhibiting good faith effort during KPREP tests will be held May 18; hours will be 9:30 a.m.-noon for fourth, and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. for fifth. Students with no minor behavior infractions will be rewarded throughout the day on May 19, and a virtual talent show will be held. 
The fifth-grade promotion ceremony will be held May 20 at 9:30 a.m. on Bomber Field, behind the elementary school. This is a ticketed event; each student will be issued four tickets.
In case of rain, the event will be held on the same day and time, only inside the BCES gymnasium. In case of rain, each student will be issued only two tickets.
In either case, family pods must be seated six feet apart. If outside, masks must be worn to enter/exit, or move about the area. Masks will not be required when seated. Digital photos will be provided. If inside, masks must be worn at all times, and the event will be streamed live.

Ballard County Middle School: 
Eighth-grade rewards day will be May 18, with outdoor games starting at 10 a.m., and continuing at noon with inflatables, a DJ, and a photo booth.
Awards day for sixth- and seventh-graders will be May 18, starting at 9:30 a.m.
A school-wide visit of the ice cream truck also will be May 18, from 11 a.m.-noon.
Eighth-grade promotion will be May 20 at 12:30 p.m. in the BCMS gym. Each student is allowed to have four guests. An eighth-grade class trip to see a Southern Illinois Miners baseball game in Marion will be May 22. Details will follow.

Ballard Memorial High School: 
Scholarship Day for seniors will be May 13 at 9 a.m. for seniors and parents. A virtual Awards Day for all students will be held at 6 p.m. Details will follow.
On May 14, seniors will drive through and pick up caps and gowns from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be music, posters, and fun. 
The Solar Car Showdown, between girls’ and boys’ competition teams, will be held May 15 at the Ballard County Fairgrounds in LaCenter. The event will begin with a meet and greet at 9:30 a.m.; the race will begin at 12:30 p.m., and continue until the cars’ batteries run down.
A Project Graduation Senior Send-off meal will be held May 16 at 5 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 3752 Paducah Road, LaCenter. It will include prizes for seniors.
Graduation practice will be held every day during the week of May 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. A full dress rehearsal and photos with Dr. Casey Allen, Ballard Superintendent, will be on May 18 at 9 a.m. Senior breakfast will be held May 19 at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria. Baccalaureate services will be held May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, LaCenter.
Graduation will be May 21 at 7 p.m. in the BMHS gym. Each student will receive 10 tickets at graduation practice during the week of May 17.
