Parents/Guardians who want to request a Supplemental School Year are asked to complete survey
Senate Bill 128, allowing Kentucky students in grades K-12 to retake their 2020-21 school year as a “Supplemental School Year,” was passed into law this year. If parents want their students to participate, they must inform their district no later than Saturday, May 1. Completing the linked survey will be your way of telling Ballard County Schools that you are interested in your student re-taking his/her current school year.

This Supplemental Year is designed for to students to regain academic loss as a result of changes in the school year due to measures in place concerning COVID. As such, we ask you to consider these things:

  • This is a one-time-only option, allowing the student to repeat the grade he/she is in during the current school year (2020-21).
  • A family electing to repeat the current year will commit to staying in that grade for the entire 2021-22 school year.
  • A student using the Supplemental School Year will have all rights and responsibilities of any other student in the grade that they are repeating, as if it were the first time. In other words, the student will participate in grade-appropriate activities, extracurriculars, assessments, etc.
  • Completing this form does not commit the student or family to the Supplemental School Year. Parents who complete this survey will be contacted by their child’s school. Parents will be required to meet with administration from their child’s school and make a commitment. All final requests will be subject to approval by the Board of Education at its May 17 meeting.
  • While the intent is to regain academic loss, please know that KHSAA rules on athletic participation and age are still enforced. This means that a student turning 15 on or before Aug. 1, 2021, will not be permitted to participate in middle school athletics, and a student turning 19 on or before Aug. 1, 2021, will not be permitted to participate in high school athletics.

Note: Please submit a separate survey for each of your children who wish to use the Supplemental School Year in Ballard County Schools.

If you DO NOT want your child to have a Supplemental School Year, please DO NOT complete this survey. ONLY parents who WANT their children to repeat the 2020-21 school year should submit this survey.
If you need additional information, please contact your child’s school.
