BMHS senior Cole Owens selected for Governor's Scholars Program
Ballard Memorial High School junior Cole Owens has been selected to participate in the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program. This year, over 2,000 applications were submitted, from which approximately 1,000 students will attend on one of three Kentucky college campuses.
Owens is the son of Juette and Lindsay Owens of Kevil. The summer residential program for outstanding rising seniors will be held for five weeks beginning in mid-June at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Centre College in Danville, and Morehead State University in Morehead.
He has requested focus sessions in agribusiness/biotechnology, business and entrepreneurship, and modes of mathematical thinking. Owens’ favorite subjects are math and history. GSP alumni are offered up to full-tuition scholarships at most Kentucky universities and colleges, and many out-of-state institutions.
Owens is the Region 1 and chapter secretary for Future Business Leaders of America; a member of Beta Club, FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and the baseball and golf teams. He also is student council president-elect, and active in his church.
