Administrators discuss district attendance

Across the country, high student absentee rates are linked to weaker academic performance, more issues with other educational barriers like physical and mental health, and a higher likelihood of dropping out. Now that pandemic protocols are less stringent, some students still are having a hard time getting back into good attendance habits at school. “The importance of good student attendance in relation to several things - including success during and after school, job readiness, college readiness, and life readiness - cannot be overstated,” said Leslee Davis, Ballard County Director of Pupil Personnel. “Our goal for overall attendance has been 96 percent for several years. In 2019-20, the district rate was really close at 95.33. This year, it’s hovering nearly a full point lower at 94.4 percent.”
