Mason Purcell has been named district technology coordinator/network administrator at Ballard County Schools. He will assume his duties on June 5 from exiting DTC Reta Renfrow and network admin Mike Howle, both of whom are retiring this summer.

Ashley Hogancamp, a former Murray State cheerleader and competitive team coach, has been named the school’s new varsity cheer coach at Ballard Memorial High School.

Barry Phillips, the Ballard Memorial junior varsity girls’ coach last season, has been named the school’s new girls’ varsity coach. Phillips will begin his third year teaching health and PE for BMHS and Ballard County Middle School in the fall, and his fifth year teaching.

Ballard Memorial High School junior Daniel Meinschein has been selected for not one, but two prestigious competitive summer programs: The Governor’s Scholars Program, and the Commonwealth Honors Academy.

The Ballard County Schools Local Planning Committee will meet on Wednesday, May 10, at 6 p.m. at the Board of Education Office, 11 Vocational School Road, Barlow. The public is welcome to attend.

Summer school credit recovery sessions for students at Ballard Memorial High School who failed an English or math class will begin Monday, June 5, and will end on Thursday, June 29. Summer school will run from 7:45 a.m.- 1:45 p.m, with breakfast/lunch provided.

Ballard County now is partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. “We’ve been working on this for a while, but only became operational recently,” said Ballard Family Focus Director Kelly Wray. “Parents can sign their kids up online, or they can call me and register them over the phone.”

Beginning in the fall of 2023, students at Ballard County Preschool and Head Start will have the same start and end times as their older counterparts at the elementary school. Students may be dropped off at 7:15 a.m., and picked up at 3 p.m., said BCPS Director Terri Gentry.
