Friday BMHS football game canceled, homecoming activities postponed

A positive COVID-19 test and the necessary connected quarantines have forced Ballard Memorial High School to cancel the Friday, Sept. 24, football game against Caldwell County, and postpone homecoming activities.

Ballard County Schools will continue universal masking, working with health department to monitor COVID cases

In its special called session last week, the Kentucky General Assembly gave local school districts the authority to work with local health departments to determine what is best for each district regarding masking rules on school property. That legislation goes into effect on Friday, Sept. 17. Starting Friday, Ballard County Schools will continue with the masking protocols in use, based on current COVID-19 information available for the county. Universal masking will remain in place for students, staff, and visitors inside all school buildings and on school buses.

UPDATED 9/14/21: Ballard County Schools has developed this Back to School Plan to implement health and safety precautions during the 2021-22 school year. Our main focus is always providing a safe and secure environment for all our students and staff members. We also believe that the best learning environment for students is in-person learning with live teachers.

Memorial Bowl is set for Friday.
Annual Memorial Bowl set for Friday

The Memorial Bowl is the annual football game honoring local veterans. Arriving veterans should check in at the gate before 6:30 p.m. A free meal for veterans will begin at 5:45 at the east (HS) end of the concession area. Veterans will line up to go on the field at 6:35. The varsity game against Fulton County will begin at 7 p.m.

A group of BCES students recently won a national contest by Shelter Insurance, and their $5,000 prize was donated to Family Focus.

A group of Ballard County Elementary School students never dreamed their summer enrichment project would be worth $5,000. Six students, in grades from 3-5, spent a week doing research, including learning about the local economy. Their work netted a big donation for Family Focus Family Resource Center at their school.

New BMHS, BCMS athletics websites now are live

Two new Bombers athletics websites are ready to #ElevateBC and grow Bomber Pride! There are separate websites for Ballard Memorial High School and Ballard County Middle School, said Ballard Athletic Director R.B. Mays. There is a Bombers Shop on each site that will allow anyone to buy from a catalog of hundreds of customized Bombers gear and items. “That always will be available by clicking the Bombers Shop tab at the top of each home page,” Mays said. “For the next two weeks, everything will be 25 percent off.”

POSTPONED: Wild Health community COVID vaccine clinic, testing

The Wild Health COVID vaccine and testing clinic that was set for tomorrow (Aug. 21) on campus has been POSTPONED. The provider was unable to secure enough Pfizer vaccine for the event. It will be rescheduled for another date.

Track closed for maintenance until Friday

The running track at Bomber Field (behind BCES) is closed today and Thursday for maintenance. It will reopen for regular use on Friday, Aug. 20.
