Barry Phillips has been named the new athletic director at Ballard County Schools. He will continue to teach health and physical education, and remain head coach of the Lady Bombers basketball team. Phillips’ duties as AD will begin on July 1.

“We are super excited to add Barry Phillps to our team as the new athletic director for the Ballard County Schools,” said Ballard Memorial High School Principal Tim Adams. “Barry has shown proven leadership as a teacher and coach, and we look forward to his work as we continue to pursue excellence in all areas of our athletic programs.”

Phillips has taught at Ballard for five of his eight years in education, and has coached the Lady Bombers since 2023. He holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and health promotion from the University of Kentucky, and a master’s degree in leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.

Barry brings a combination of vision, integrity, and organizational skills to this role,” said Haley Overstreet, the district’s current athletic director. “He will invest in building relationships with our student athletes and coaches, and hold high standards for all. I'm excited to work with him in this new capacity."

Phillps said, “I took on this role as an opportunity to help all Bomber athletics, and the student-athletes I work with daily. My goal is to work closely with each program and coach, to help them achieve success season after season.”

Phillips and his wife, Amanda, have three young children.
